Overview

Gain a perspective of the enormity of the Holocaust at the Chamber of the Holocaust(World Peace Centre)  on Mt. Zion.  Walk through the ten exhibition halls and courtyard and view the Bergen Belsen Memorial,  the Candle Memorial, the Children’s Memorial, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Monument and a symbolic gas oven.

See artifacts such as yellow arm patches and a jacket made from Torah parchment (all from Leviticus describing terrible curses) that was worn by a Nazi officer. Visit the grave of Oskar Schindler and read the names of over 1,000 destroyed Jewish communities written on plaques that line the Courtyard of Annihilation. Visit the two rooms of the World Peace Center. Meditate and pray in the second room that houses King David’s Well, which was used by Jewish pilgrims in the time of the Second Temple. According to legend, this is a place where prayers are answered.

Overview

Visit the Menachem Begin Heritage Center and learn about the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. Walk through chronologically arranged displays, beginning in Begin’s hometown of Brisk, Poland, his leadership role in the Irgun, his role in the development of an opposition political party and his role as Prime Minister of Israel.

View original and restored items, video footage  and touch screen exhibits while listening to recordings of Begin’s own words.  Watch a film summarizing Menachem Begin’s accomplishments as Prime Minister. View Begins’ archives and utilize the resource center for historical research.

Participate in lectures, musical performances, cultural events and educational programming on the site.  View the archaeological gardens where an ancient burial cave and a silver scroll pendant inscribed with the Priestly blessing were excavated, significant as it predates the Qumran Cave letters by 700 years.

Also found at this site were Roman coins, an Ottoman weapons cache, and the remains of a Byzantine church.  Enjoy the panoramic view of the Old City in Jerusalem and the road from Bethlehem, historically a strategic military site (6th – 7th centuries BCE).

Tradition has it that Abraham’s Well, dug thousands of years ago was carved out of 2.5 meters feet of solid rock to a depth of 13.5 meters during Biblical times by the Patriarch Abraham.  A well with a working pump and trough to transfer water into is adjacent to Abraham’s well.

Discover information about the area at the adjoining visitor’s center, including an audio-visual presentation of Beer Sheva’s history from the time of Abraham to present day. Enjoy a meal at the adjoining restaurant at a table next to the well and find out more about Nights B”bar Abraham, an evening of folklore, at the Visitor’s Center.
