Overview
Founded in 1998 as part of Israel’s Jubilee Celebrations by the Israel Postal Authority, the Tel Aviv Foundation part of the Eretz Israel Museum, The Alexander Museum of Postal History and Philately delves into the historical, social and political aspects of the Israeli postal service starting from the mid-19th century until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
Explore the three main sections of the museum, beginning with the first section that displays old mailboxes, telephones, a red 1949 Ford that was used by the Israel Post, as well as photographs, posters and letters. See a graphic and film exhibit portraying how messages were written and transferred over the past thousands of years, as well as “A Letter’s Journey”, a computerized game that demonstrates various postal services.
In the Philately Section, learn about stamps through computer stations, multimedia displays, an over-sized stamp album with stamps organized chronologically and exhibits about designs, styles and the history of stamps. On the lower floor of the museum, see temporary exhibits, a library, a lecture room and a display of rare stamps. Children can participate in the special children’s activity center.
