Overview

Located inside the walls of old Akko built after Napoleon’s unsuccessful attempt at conquering the city in 1779,  is the museum of “Treasures in the Walls.” In the commander’s tower are four arched halls which held the Ottoman’s garrison at one time but now hold an intriguing and rare collection of artifacts depicting the life of the varied people (Jews, Christians, Muslims, Druze, Bedouins, Circassians and Bahai’s) in the Galilee during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The museum is divided into two sections; the right wing contains furniture, locks, clocks, vessels and other items and the left wing is a reconstructed market with workshops. Meet craftsmen including a hat-maker, a leather-maker, a carpenter, a woodsmith, a blacksmith and enjoy an old pharmacy.

Overview

Founded in 1993 by a group of local artists and managed by contemporary artist Anton Beidermann, The Hadera Artist’s House or Studio Oman is an art school and gallery with three main goals. The first goal is to create a “total” creative environment in the plastics arts, while involving the public.

Visitors to the museum can see the local populations’ inclusion in these works. The second goal is to exhibit high quality, introspective works of Israeli and international artists and the third goal is to develop awareness in the community regarding the plastic arts via lectures and discussions. Seminar topic: the female form.

Overview

Founded in 1951 and one of the oldest museums in the country, the Wilfrid Israel Museum was named after Wilfrid Israel, a German Jew who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust and later bequeathed his art collection to Kibbutz HaZorea.

View the three permanent exhibitions; the Ancient Far East collection (art from Camboida, India, China and Thailand), the Ancient Near East collection and the Archaeological collection (excavated locally by Ezra Miirhuf). See temporary exhibitions of modern art, including painting, sculpture, photography and textiles. Enjoy the manicured lawns, trees and benches, hear a lecture, attend a workshop, book a tour or take the kids to a creative hands-on art activity.

With the aim to give visitors a Havaya (fun experience) and impart Yeda (knowledge), the Havayeda Teva Center is one of 7 established across the country (currently located in Bat Yam, Beer Sheva, Carmiel, Kiryat Gat, Rahat, and Yerucham, as well as a mobile unit in the North) by the award-winning tutoring and mentoring organization “Perach” to allow disadvantaged children throughout Israel the chance to learn about science.

Explore the laboratory experiments, operate interactive exhibits and take part in a guided tour, workshop or an afternoon class. Experience hands-on activities dealing with mathematics, logic games, mechanics and physical principles. Listen to story time and visit the mirror room. Day camps are available during vacation times and birthday parties can be accommodated by the museum.
