Overview
Located inside the walls of old Akko built after Napoleon’s unsuccessful attempt at conquering the city in 1779, is the museum of “Treasures in the Walls.” In the commander’s tower are four arched halls which held the Ottoman’s garrison at one time but now hold an intriguing and rare collection of artifacts depicting the life of the varied people (Jews, Christians, Muslims, Druze, Bedouins, Circassians and Bahai’s) in the Galilee during the 19th and 20th centuries.
The museum is divided into two sections; the right wing contains furniture, locks, clocks, vessels and other items and the left wing is a reconstructed market with workshops. Meet craftsmen including a hat-maker, a leather-maker, a carpenter, a woodsmith, a blacksmith and enjoy an old pharmacy.
